AHS CARES Award
Jan 20, 2022We are PEAS’d to announce that Eating, Feeding and Swallowing Teams have received the AHS CARES award, celebrating exceptional patient and client care. Eating, feeding, and swallowing concerns can have a profound impact on the health, wellness, and quality of life of infants, children, and adults. Across AHS, Eating Feeding and Swallowing teams have experienced a continuous rise in patient volume and service complexity, in the context of unprecedented workforce changes. These individuals and teams demonstrated kindness in welcoming and mentoring clinicians into new roles. At the same time, they have been relentless in seeking to maintain and improve quality of care. Improvement initiatives focused on access and navigation; patient and family engagement; collaboration; professional practice learning and support: integrating emerging evidence and creative solutions to meet evolving needs during the pandemic; and remained diligent in ensuring the safety of patients, colleagues, and themselves. Over the past two years the number of new connections and resources shared across the province has been astounding.
Congratulations and thank you to everyone involved in providing Eating, Feeding and Swallowing care!

PEAS update during COVID-19 crisis
Mar 26, 2020Dear Pediatric Eating And Swallowing (PEAS) community,
To ensure that Albertans are provided with the best care possible, we are pausing PEAS project plans that affect operations management and staff involved with COVID-19. In particular, we are postponing the following for 2 months or longer as needed:
- Virtual Training sessions (originally planned for April and May)
- Innovation Learning Collaborative (originally planned for June 3)
- Family survey data collection
However, we are very pleased to be proceeding with the implementation of the new PEAS Website which includes a suite of tools for healthcare providers and families. It launched Mar 30, 2020 at the following URL: https://peas.ahs.ca/. We will continue adding new content and features as they are available.
While we are putting some things on hold, we are committed to rescheduling the Virtual Training sessions and quality improvement initiatives in the coming months. If you have already registered, we will be sure to notify you when the new dates are set. If you have not registered yet, please subscribe to our mailing list here.
Thanks to your resounding enthusiasm and support, our community has grown to over 800 people on our mailing list and over 300 people who registered for each of our Virtual Training sessions! To our highly dedicated families, providers and consultants on our PEAS Working Groups and Steering Committee, we hope you’re extremely proud of what’s been accomplished thus far and how it is already transforming care. You have made all the difference!
We wish to express our gratitude for your contributions to this project and wish you all the best to please stay safe at this time,
Dr. Justine Turner on behalf of the PEAS Leadership Team
