Formula Coverage

In Alberta, several government-funded programs may help cover the cost of formula. Use the Formula Coverage Search Tool below to check which formulas may be eligible.

Important Notes About Formula Coverage:

• This is not a complete list of all formulas available from manufacturers.
• Not all products are covered by government programs.
• Many Alberta government-funded programs (including Blue Cross Non-Group Coverage) use the Interactive Drug Benefit List to decide which formulas, supplements, and special diets are eligible for coverage.

Coverage types:

• Regular Benefit: Require a prescription.
• Special Authorization: Requires a prescription and a completed Special Authorization form (available online for prescribers.
• Limited Use: Available through NIHB with a Registered Dietitian recommendation or Physician prescription. The Limited Use form is faxed directly to the requester for submission.
